Welcome to Sleights and Sandsend Medical Practice

The practices formed as a result of a merger in April 2011. There are two surgeries, a main surgery in Sleights and a branch surgery in Sandsend.  Both of the surgeries carry on the traditions and philosophies of the two previous seperate practices which have been serving the area for many years.  Although both  of the practices have been around since the early days of the NHS, the current Churchfield Surgery was purpose built over 25 years ago while the branch surgery in Sandsend has been in operation for more than 30 years, however this has recently been redeveloped in 2016. The Practice is proud to serve Sleights and Sandsend as well as Whitby and its surrounding villages. In October 2016, the CQC rated the practice as outstanding. You can read the report by clicking below.

Sleights and Sandsend Surgery both have parking available. Sleights surgery has its own car park. Sandsend Surgery has an area to the left of the surgery for patients to park, this is also a parking area for the public and can sometimes be full. However, you can park along the roadside in the designated parking areas, this is free in the winter but in the summer months, this is 20p for the first hour. We appreciate the difficulty with parking at the Sandsend Surgery and we are currently trying to resolve this problem. We apologise for any inconvenience.

Wheelchair access is available at both surgeries. Sleights surgery also has a disabled parking space in the car park. Please ask the staff if you need any help. We can also assist patients who are visually/hearing impaire and need help communicating with us. For example british sign language and large print. We are currently working on adapting this website which will also help communicate with those patients.

When determining a practice boundary the practice takes into account that the doctors are required to provide the full range of General Medical Services to those pateints who register at the practice and whose address falls within the boundary.

It is therefore important that the practice boundary does not compromise the care given to patients.
As the full range of services includes home visits and other home based services distance becomes a factor in the determination of the boundary. When a patient's address falls outside the boundary it is deemed inappropriate to continue providing services to the patient as to do so could compromise the services provided to that patient and to other patients registered at the Practice.

The map below shows the current Practice Boundary. If you wish to register at the Practice please make sure you live within the indicate boundary
